ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Youth Outreach & Recruitment Associate plays a vital role in driving enrollment at Urban Dove’s transfer high schools by identifying and engaging disconnected youth and their families. This position focuses on building trust-based relationships within the community and supporting students who have experienced personal, academic, or social challenges. The Associate is responsible for executing outreach strategies that connect with youth facing obstacles such as trauma, housing instability, system involvement, or long-term school disengagement.

The ideal candidate has experience in community outreach, youth development, or alternative education settings and is deeply committed to educational equity and access. They should also have an established network within Manhattan to help support and expand the campus program effectively.

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Urban Dove Team Charter School (UD Team) is a distinctive network of sports-based high schools catering to over-aged, under-credited youth. We fuse a robust academic curriculum with sports-based youth development, ensuring our graduates receive a diploma, a stepping stone for higher education, and essential job skills.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Recruitment & Outreach

  • Identify and recruit over-age, under-credited youth across NYC boroughs who would benefit from Urban Dove’s model.
  • Conduct outreach in shelters, juvenile reentry programs, GED centers, and local community organizations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with school counselors, social workers, DOE staff, CBOs, and case managers to establish referral pipelines.
  • Organize and attend school fairs, tabling events, community meetings, and youth programs.

Family & Student Engagement

  • Serve as a warm, welcoming point of contact for prospective students and their families.
  • Conduct 1:1 intake meetings with students using a trauma-informed, culturally responsive approach.
  • Coordinate and lead open houses, info sessions, and school tours.
  • Support newly enrolled students through their transition into Urban Dove, including follow-up and check-ins.

Data & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, intakes, and enrollment status using internal tracking tools.
  • Generate weekly reports for leadership outlining progress toward recruitment goals and outreach effectiveness.

Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with school leaders and the Associate Executive Director to align recruitment efforts with school culture and academic goals.
  • Collaborate with the athletics, guidance, and operations teams to ensure smooth intake and onboarding experiences.
  • Support re-enrollment efforts as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; relevant experience in lieu of degree considered.
  • 2–4 years of experience in youth outreach, social work, admissions, or community organizing.
  • Demonstrated experience working with high school-aged youth who have experienced trauma, disengagement, or instability.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to connect authentically with young people and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Organized, reliable, and able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Haitian Creole, or other community language) preferred.
  • Must be available to work occasional evenings/weekends during peak recruitment seasons.
  • Knowledge of NYC's transfer school landscape and DOE systems is a plus.
