Part-time Instructional Reviewer

Flexible Location

This position is based in a home office anywhere in the U.S. (with a possible preference for specific states or region based on our portfolio of work).

WHO WE ARE

TNTP brings research, policy, and consulting together to reimagine America’s public education system. We are a fully remote, national organization of over 600 full-time TNTPers with expertise from a variety of fields, united by the vision to change outcomes for all students. Working collaboratively, we dig into educators’ toughest challenges, and we provide actionable solutions grounded in evidence. This work takes place in schools and districts across the country, and our national position allows us to spot trends, collect and analyze data, and advocate for policy changes that introduce greater impact at scale. We work across sectors and partner with school systems to ensure that the 3.5 million young people who graduate high school every year have pathways to economic and social mobility.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Academic Diagnostics Instructional Reviewers are committed to a strong vision for standards-aligned experiences for all students and are willing and able to consistently follow a systematic process to review and report on the quality of assignments, student work samples, and classroom instruction, as well as staff and student experiences, to ensure that all TNTP staff and external partners have an accurate understanding of their students’ academic experiences.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Engage in approximately 12 hours of initial training on literacy and/or math observation and assignment review protocols, including submitting a series of observation and assignment rating samples to become a TNTP-certified reviewer of these tools.

  • Implement all tools with integrity to ensure systematic and reliable data collection across assignments, focus groups, and observations.

  • Analyze assignments and focus group notes efficiently and accurately to meet all established deadlines.

  • Upload ratings into TNTP’s online tool and provide sufficient, clear evidence to support those ratings.

  • Analyze qualitative data and synthesize trends to develop clear and compelling headlines or takeaways.

  • Stay well-informed about curriculum options in designated content areas, including their general strengths and weaknesses as noted by organizations such as EdReports and LA Believes.

  • Participate in ongoing norming calls as needed, no more than one hour per month, to ensure consistent alignment with the process for analyzing assignments, observations, and focus groups.

  • When available and interested, travel to support diagnostics at school sites (travel expenses covered by TNTP), provide ratings and evidence for teacher observations, participate in debriefs with instructional leaders, and, when applicable, take verbatim notes to capture student and teacher focus groups.

  • Strong understanding of K–2 foundational literacy skills—including phonological awareness, phonics, decoding, high-frequency word recognition, and fluency—and/or K–5 foundational math skills, including number sense, place value, operations, fact fluency with conceptual understanding, fractions, and mathematical reasoning.

  • Prior experience as a classroom teacher and/or instructional coach, content-area lead, or curriculum writer/reviewer working to align instructional practices and/or curricular materials to College and Career Ready Standards.

  • Strong writing skills, including the ability to provide clear, coherent evidence and rationale to support evaluations or ratings.

  • Excellent synthesis skills with the ability to distill long-form content into concise, meaningful headlines and key takeaways.

  • Analytical thinking: You have the ability to break down information, identify patterns, and draw meaningful conclusions from qualitative data.

  • Impeccable attention to detail: You can carefully follow scoring rubrics and analysis protocols without missing critical distinctions.

  • Strong synthesis and writing skills: You can synthesize qualitative data into powerful headlines that speak to the trends and nuances being shared by various stakeholder groups.
