CONGRESSIONAL PROGRAM

The Aspen Institute Congressional Program is a nonpartisan neutral convener of world renown scholars and leaders and Republican and Democrat members of Congress to focus on the pressing foreign policy issues of our time and discuss, civilly debate, and develop policy solutions in private, off-the-record sessions conducted all over the world.



ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Finance and Grants Associate is responsible for overseeing financial management and budgetary tasks and responsibilities for the program. The ideal candidate will have 2-3 years of experience managing budgets, grant accounting, grant writing and reporting and proposals and other grant operations.

The Finance and Grants Associate will report directly to the Program Director. The salary range for this full-time role is $73,000 - $84,000. In accordance with the Aspen Institute’s Reimagining Work policy, the Finance and Grants Associate should be willing to be in-person with colleagues in the Washington, DC office a minimum of 40% of the time while having the flexibility to work remotely for the balance.



WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Monitor and track Program project expenses and revenues and conduct monthly budget reviews with deputy director and monitor and track program general ledger.
  • Monitor and track and project expenditures versus funding and assist with assignment of expenses to specific revenue.
  • Prepare budget documents as required by Aspen Accounting
  • Provide Support to deputy director in financial and budget management.
  • Monitor compliance with grant accounting policies and procedures.
  • Track grants and funds received from financial supporters, oversee the balances of foundation funds to determine which grants are to be designated for specific expenses.
  • Ensure compliance with internal accounting control procedures.
  • Prepare and manage budget for upcoming year as required in the 3Q by Aspen Accounting.
  • Coordinate activity involving Program grant approvals and Aspen Accounting.
  • Review financial section of funding proposals, as well as contract and grant terms and conditions, prior to sending to requesting appropriate signature.
  • Prepare and submit financial reports for each grant proposal and interim and final report submission.
  • Helping craft narrative to satisfy funder requests.
  • Review all financial reports for accuracy and compliance with grant guidelines before submission for signature.
  • Coordinate activities to ensure that all deliverables are submitted in accordance with the grant terms.



WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO THRIVE

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field and 1-3 years of experience in accounting, finance, budgeting and grant management.
  • Knowledge of accounting in a nonprofit organization (Experience in grants accounting a plus).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Budgeting and forecasting background.
  • Experience using financial reporting tools such as Planful.
