ABOUT SUMMER SEARCH At Summer Search, we believe in 'No Ceilings' and envision a world in which young people, regardless of circumstances, can chart their own destiny. In the United States, students from underserved communities – disproportionately BIPOC and first-generation – face systemic inequities in school, in the workforce, and in life. Nevertheless, these young people possess unique strengths, resilience, and limitless potential. Since 1990, Summer Search has partnered with young people during their transition from adolescence into adulthood by connecting them to expansive opportunities, professional mentoring, and a community of support. Summer Searchers recognize their potential and build a toolkit to navigate and challenge systemic barriers, break new ground for their families and communities, and achieve economic equity and a life of purpose. ABOUT SUMMER EXPERIENCES Through mentoring and Transformative Summer Experiences, Summer Search supports young people transitioning from adolescence to adulthood. We aim to unleash the potential of our young people while also building a toolkit for navigating and challenging systemic barriers to higher education and career opportunities. Our Summer Experiences do just that, by allowing our participants to choose a wide range of summer experiences that range from 1 week to 4 weeks and explore a variety of topic areas such as academic learning, outdoor education, civic engagement, international service learning, and competitive arts-based programming. Our participants travel domestically and internationally with our trusted program partners to explore their interests and identities within well-crafted programs. THE OPPORTUNITY While our youth (high school participants) are traveling throughout the summertime, Summer Search provides a On-Call system to respond to any physical or emotional safety needs, logistical situations, or parent and partner concerns. Summer On-Call Specialists will respond to calls Mon- Friday 5am- 3pm and Sat-Sunday 6am- 10pm. Using our tiered support system Specialists are the first line of defense, using good judgement and following protocols and procedures. Specialists' main responsibilities are to triage calls: record incident notes in our tracking system, respond and problem solve in the moment, utilize our tiered support system to escalate emergency incidents and relay information directly to Summer Search program staff.
