THE ROLE
Members of Pahara Institute at Lone Rock’s Faculty serve as lead moderators for the Pahara Fellowship, and support the selection of new Fellows. This role executes standards of excellence for moderation and selection. Faculty ensure that Pahara's curriculum and content are brought to life through skilled moderation that creates transformative learning experiences for participants, and support the selection of transformative leaders for the Pahara Fellowship.
Pahara will select 3-5 faculty moderators for cohorts launching in 2027, joining a team of staff moderators.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Area 1: Moderation (2 cohorts per year, 6 weeks of moderation)
- Alongside a core team of fellow faculty members, moderate two to three cohorts per calendar year for the Pahara Fellowship
- Engage in robust cycles of development and feedback with the Pahara team
- Execute the vision of excellence in moderator practice and coaching across Pahara Fellowship cohorts
- Model exemplary moderation techniques and approaches
- Offer input to the EVP of Network Effect on standards, protocols, and best practices for program moderation
- Offer input to the EVP of Network Effect and VP of Program Experience to develop and codify approaches for moderating challenging conversations and complex content
- Align moderation practices with Pahara's values
- Be an active member of a learning community of moderators focused on continuous improvement
Area 2: Fellow Selection (3 weeks per year)
- Work with EVP of Selection to support application review and selection of Fellows
- Review candidate applications, interview prospective Fellows and make cohort mapping recommendations as part of the selection process
- Apply selection criteria consistently and equitably in the selection process
- Participate in selection trainings and discussions to inform decision-making
- Provide feedback on selection tools and criteria based on review experience
In addition to the 6-9 weeks of moderation and 3 weeks of work spread across a few months for selection, there will be a mandatory 4 day, 3 night in person training each year.
Requirements
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Previous experience serving as a moderator for the Pahara Fellowship
- Demonstrated excellence in facilitating diverse groups and managing group dynamics
- Understanding of adult learning theory and practice
- Knowledge of education systems, policies, and leadership challenges
- Expertise in facilitating difficult conversations and navigating sensitive topics
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Superior verbal communication and active listening abilities
- Strong emotional intelligence and situational awareness
- Ability to adapt moderation approaches to different contexts and participant needs
- Cultural competence and ability to create inclusive learning environments
- Ability to travel regularly for program delivery and moderator development
- Alignment with Pahara's core values
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
- Moderator Faculty report to the Executive Vice President of Network Effect, with dotted line support from the Executive Vice President of Fellow Cultivation and Selection.
- Travel: This position will require travel 9-12 weeks per year to Lone Rock campus for moderation duties. Faculty will also travel an additional 4 days for training and development to occur at a location outside of Lone Rock. Click here for a full overview of the annual time commitment cadence.
- Compensation: Faculty members who commit to moderating 2 cohorts per year will be compensated at a rate of $61,750 for their moderation and selection duties.
- Contract terms are for one year, with an option to extend.
