Job Description
The Transportation Associate supports the safe and efficient daily operation of school transportation services. This role focuses on the day-to-day execution of routes and schedules while ensuring student safety, regulatory compliance, and high-quality customer service. The Associate will support the Director of Facilities and Regional Operations by monitoring bus drivers and monitors, maintaining accurate records, and acting as a primary liaison for school leaders and families.
Here's what you'll be doing:
Operational Support & Coordination
- Coordinate day-to-day transportation activities for KIPP Miami campuses, including daily route coverage and scheduling.
- Supervise Bus Drivers and manage time cards, route assignments, timeliness and adherence to protocols.
- Provide daily guidance and support to Bus Drivers and Bus Monitors to ensure performance aligns with KIPP Miami’s Heartbeat Principles.
- Assist in tracking transportation expenses, fuel usage, and maintenance logs to support budget management.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation for routes and vehicle service records.
- Foster a positive team culture through consistent communication and recognition of staff contributions
Safety & Compliance Monitoring
- Under supervision of the Director of Regional Operations, monitor compliance with Florida Department of Education (FDOE), and DOT regulations.
- Ensure accurate completion of FEFP ridership surveys by drivers.
- Facilitate required vehicle inspections and coordinate with approved vendors for timely repairs.
- Assist in the delivery of training programs for staff regarding student management and safety procedures.
- Maintain incident reporting protocols and assist in the documentation of any accidents or safety concerns.
Logistics & Communication
- Implement and update efficient bus routes using transportation software.
- Handle daily dispatch tasks to ensure all routes are covered and arrive on time.
- Coordinate transportation for field trips, athletics, and extracurricular programs in collaboration with school staff.
- Serve as the first point of contact for family inquiries and transportation concerns.
- Under supervision of the Director of Regional Operations, conduct regular safety and evacuation drills for transportation staff and ensure all vehicles meet emergency equipment standards.
- Support emergency protocols, including hurricane procedures and safety drills, as directed by regional leadership

Required Education and Experience
- At least two (2) years of professional experience in transportation, logistics, or school operations (Required).
- High School Diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree (Preferred).
- Valid Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements, or the ability to obtain within six months of hire (Required).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace; experience with routing software is a plus.
- Satisfactory background check and driving record.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish or Haitian Creole (Preferred).
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to maintain alertness and physical readiness to ensure the safety and supervision of students during transport.
- Essential Physical Functions
- Ability to bend, reach, twist, and turn to check mirrors, open and close doors, secure students, and maintain safety.
- Ability to climb steps and walk the bus aisle multiple times daily.
- Ability to assist students with mobility devices and operate lifts or securement systems.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 50 pounds on occasion (e.g., during emergency evacuations).
- Sensory and Coordination Requirements
- Vision and hearing must meet Florida DOT standards, including 20/40 visual acuity and adequate hearing (with or without correction).
- Adequate hand-eye-foot coordination to safely operate bus controls.
- Ability to communicate clearly in English with students, staff, and families.
- Environmental Conditions
- Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions (heat, rain, humidity).
- Ability to tolerate moderate to high noise levels.
- Ability to remain alert and focused for extended periods.
- Compliance Requirements
- Must maintain DOT medical certification and CDL endorsements.
- Must comply with drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Additional Information
The salary range for this role is $55,000 - 65,000, commensurate with experience.
