Job Description

Role Overview:

The Instructional Coach reports directly to the School Principal and plays a critical role in strengthening instructional practice and teacher development within the school. The Instructional Coach partners with teachers, Assistant Principals, and school leaders to ensure the consistent implementation of rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum and high-quality instruction.

Through observation, coaching cycles, modeling, and professional learning, the Instructional Coach supports teachers in improving their instructional practice in order to drive strong student outcomes. The coach helps ensure that every classroom provides engaging, rigorous, and culturally responsive instruction that affirms and centers the identities and experiences of students.

The Instructional Coach also collaborates with the regional Teaching & Learning team to support monthly regional professional development for teachers, helping ensure strong alignment between school-based instructional coaching and regional academic priorities.

The Instructional Coach serves as a key member of the school’s Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) and supports the continuous improvement of teaching and learning across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

Teacher Coaching & Development

  • Provide individualized instructional coaching to teachers through regular classroom observations, feedback sessions, modeling, and co-planning.
  • Implement structured instructional coaching cycles focused on improving teacher practice and student outcomes.
  • Support teachers in planning rigorous, standards-aligned lessons and units.
  • Model effective instructional practices and facilitate opportunities for teachers to practice new strategies.
  • Support the onboarding and development of new teachers.
  • Formally and informally evaluate teachers.

Instructional Improvement

  • Partner with the Principal and Assistant Principal to identify instructional priorities and support school-wide improvement efforts.
  • Support consistent implementation of the school’s curriculum and academic program.
  • Ensure teachers maintain high expectations for students and deliver engaging, rigorous lessons.
  • Help strengthen classroom culture and instructional routines.
  • Support the implementation of the school-wide MTSS framework as needed.

Data-Driven Instruction

  • Support teachers in analyzing student performance data and identifying instructional priorities.
  • Facilitate student work analysis and data meetings.
  • Assist teachers in using formative assessments to adjust instruction.
  • Support preparation for high-stakes assessments and benchmark exams.

Regional Professional Development

  • Support the design and facilitation of monthly regional professional development for teachers in collaboration with the regional Teaching & Learning team.
  • Help ensure regional professional learning is responsive to classroom needs and aligned to instructional priorities.
  • Share insights from school-level coaching to inform regional professional development design.
  • Support the implementation of strategies and instructional practices introduced during regional PD sessions.

Professional Learning Within the School

  • Facilitate grade-level or content team meetings focused on instructional planning and curriculum implementation.
  • Lead school-based professional development aligned with instructional priorities.
  • Provide tools, resources, and exemplars that strengthen teacher practice.

Collaboration

  • Partner closely with the Principal and Assistant Principal to monitor instructional quality and teacher development.
  • Serve as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT).
  • Collaborate with the regional Teaching & Learning team to ensure alignment with network academic priorities.
  • Support vertical alignment and collaboration across grade levels.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required
    • Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision, and/or Admin Certification
    • Pennsylvania State certification Level I or II strongly preferred.
    • 5+ years of successful teaching experience with strong student achievement outcomes.
    • Experience serving students and families in urban school settings.
    • Demonstrated expertise in standards-aligned instruction and curriculum implementation.
    • Experience leading professional development or coaching teachers preferred.
    • Strong data analysis and instructional planning skills.
    • Complete all required criminal and child abuse background checks:
      • PA State Police Clearance
      • PA Child Abuse Clearance
      • Cogent Federal Fingerprinting

    Additional Information

    • The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 commensurate upon experience.
    • Educator salaries at KPPS are equitable and transparent. To maintain equity, educator salaries are determined by a combination of years of teaching experience and certification status.
