Position Overview

Every day, it is the great people at KIPP that prove the possibility. The Building Administrator Substitute plays a vital role in keeping our school community thriving whenever the principal or assistant principal is away. This leader ensures that students feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn each day, while also empowering teachers and staff to bring their best selves to the classroom. This role reports directly to the VP of Schools.

KIPP St. Louis is a part of a national network of free, open-enrollment, public charter schools offering a choice to families and children in St. Louis city. As the largest charter school system in the city, we are driven and committed to our mission and vision.

KIPP St. Louis currently educates over 2,000 students and boasts hundreds of alumni. Today, our St. Louis network consists of three elementary schools, two middle schools, and a high school.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the school with warmth and positivity, creating a welcoming environment for all students and families.

  • Support students by modeling respectful behavior, addressing concerns with care, and celebrating their successes.

  • Partner with teachers to maintain strong instruction and smooth classroom operations.

  • Ensure safety across the building, while also cultivating a school culture where students feel seen, heard, and valued.

  • Communicate openly and kindly with staff, students, and families to keep everyone informed and connected.

  • Handle discipline with fairness and empathy, focusing on growth, responsibility, and restorative practices.

  • Step in confidently during unexpected situations, making decisions that prioritize student well-being.

  • Carry out necessary administrative tasks, always keeping students at the heart of decisions.

  • Attends administrative meetings, as required.

  • Participates in professional activities designed to enhance competency.

  • Additional duties may be assigned

Qualifications

What you bring to the table:

Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree required

● Administrative credential or current enrollment in an administrative credentialing program required

● Demonstrated success as a principal (at least 5 years) in an urban school

● An uncompromising belief that all students can learn

● A relentless work ethic and a high degree of patience to push through difficult challenges

● The ability and commitment to use data and regular assessment to inform instructional decisions

● Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a team of teachers and administrators

● Outstanding public speaking and writing skills

● Technological proficiency and adaptability

● Excellent organizational skills

● The desire and humility to grow as a leader
