The Study Hall Lead develops and leads engaging, structured study hall programming for middle school students participating in after-school athletics, enrichment teams, and clubs. This role is responsible for creating a strong foundation of academic and social-emotional habits that help students make progress towards DREAM’s Graduate Profile and prepare for college and career. The Study Hall Lead explicitly teaches skills including goal setting, time management, organization, executive functioning, self-advocacy, and asking for help, while also providing students with guidance on studying and homework completion.

The Study Hall Lead will build this program from the ground up by developing lesson plans, implementing a scaffolded approach that increases student independence over time, and gathering feedback from students, teachers, school leaders, after-school staff, and other stakeholders. This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher or youth development professional who is passionate about executive functioning, strong scholar habits, and social-emotional learning and is interested in part-time after-school work. The Study Hall Lead must be flexible, reflective, and eager to test new approaches, assess what is working for young people, and codify effective lessons, systems, and practices for future expansion to additional campuses.

Responsibilities

• Lead study hall periods for students participating in up to 13 different after-school teams or clubs, including athletics, robotics, and other enrichment activities;

• Facilitate study hall periods ranging from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, supporting one to two groups at a time and working with different groups throughout the week;

• Develop and facilitate lessons that help students build strong academic, social-emotional, and executive functioning skills;

• Explicitly teach skills including time management, organization, goal setting, planning, task initiation, self-advocacy, and asking for help;

• Use a scaffolded approach to gradually increase student ownership, independence, and accountability;

• Provide academic support and guidance related to studying, homework completion, assignment tracking, and preparation for assessments;

• Establish clear routines, systems, and expectations that help students remain safe, focused, organized, and engaged;

• Gather and incorporate feedback from students, teachers, school leaders, after-school staff, and other stakeholders to strengthen study hall programming;

• Track student participation, skill development, academic needs, and other relevant program data;

• Codify lesson plans, instructional strategies, data-management systems, routines, and resources to support future program replication and expansion;

• Collaborate with after-school staff, coaches, club leaders, and school-based teams to ensure students receive consistent academic and social-emotional support;

• Supervise and manage student behavior using positive youth development and restorative practices;

• Model professionalism through consistent attendance, timeliness, preparation, flexibility, and responsiveness to feedback;

• Participate in regular planning, professional development, feedback, and coaching;

• Implement all health and safety protocols as required;

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Ability to work during all scheduled hours, required;

• Ability to work in person at the school or program site, required;

• Bachelor’s Degree required, Masters in Education preferred;

• Experience as a middle school teacher, strongly preferred;

• Ability to plan engaging and developmentally appropriate lessons;

• Experience facilitating groups of adolescents;

• Ability to take initiative and maintain flexibility;

• Willingness to work in a team environment and meet high expectations for students and staff;

• Remote/independent planning and prep time (roughly 2 hours per week)

Compensation

DREAM offers competitive compensation. The hourly rate for this position is $30 per hour. If the person hired is also a full-time DREAM employee, the role will be paid via stipend: $9,000/ school year.
