About the Team
The Legal team is comprised of six lawyers and two non-lawyer specialist (including this role), working on a broad range of issues across a large and complicated organization, with numerous products that are primarily digital-first, serving 7+ million students per year, 500,000+ educators per year, and our 6,000+ member educational organizations. We help College Board fulfill its mission of connecting students to college success and opportunity. We do so by embedding ourselves in teams across the organization and by being at the table when decisions are made. Our goal is to be valued and trusted advisors and counselors, sought out for our experience, judgment, and creativity.
About the Opportunity
As the Director, Privacy Compliance within the Legal Department, you will support the Associate General Counsel, Privacy and play a crucial role in implementation and ongoing enhancement of College Board’s privacy program. You will provide active and solution-oriented support for the privacy program’s needs and objectives. This role will be responsible for managing various privacy program components, including managing privacy initiatives, milestones and deadlines, and driving collaboration, accountability, and action across teams. The Director, Privacy Compliance will assist in the development and implementation of privacy processes, procedures and documentation.
In this role, you will:
Drive Implementation of College Board’s Privacy Program (50%)
Partner with the Privacy legal counsel to lead the evolution and implementation of our privacy strategy, roadmap, policies, and practices.
Partner with Privacy legal counsel to understand key regulatory requirements, document privacy related requirements and collaborate with product and technology teams to deliver solutions.
Develop, plan and manage various program activities for College Board’s privacy program.
Drive consistent rollout of business compliance processes and initiatives in support of College Board’s privacy program, including through collaboration with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
Support the integration of privacy compliance requirements into business practices.
Project manage key privacy compliance related projects across the organization by partnering with product and technology teams, including ensuring delivery against timelines, milestones and objectives.
Simultaneously manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment and prioritize projects along with ad hoc requests/initiatives.
Support and Manage Legal Department’s Privacy Program Strategies (25%)
Promote a culture of privacy compliance across the organization and provide guidance to resolve privacy inquiries and situations brought forth by business partners.
Assist in managing privacy notice revisions and processes.
Lead the development and roll out of internal communications and awareness campaigns.
Conduct privacy-related assessments in consultation with the legal counsel.
Provide support for implementation of new privacy laws and requirements.
Support any inquiries from the privacy authorities and investigations that have privacy issues.
Support any privacy diligence requirements for acquisitions and third-party vendors and suppliers, as assigned.
Assist in Development and Maintenance of Privacy Program Processes and other Documentation (25%)
Support the management of privacy-related templates, ensuring the repository of templates and supporting documentation (e.g., checklist and decision trees) is kept updated. Communicate any changes to relevant departments.
Research and provide effective summaries and, as applicable, gap analysis of applicable privacy laws, regulations, best practices and related resources.
Maintain privacy program documentation, policies and standards to ensure clarity, consistency and compliance.
Assist with the tracking of national, local, and industry-specific data privacy laws, principles, standards and best practices.
Ensure responses to internal and audit related requests surrounding the privacy program.
About You
To qualify for this role, you must have:
Experience managing compliance related projects involving cross-business and cross-functional teams, with substantive privacy-related compliance experience preferred.
Experienced legal operations/compliance/paralegal professional with demonstrated ability to provide easily understandable direction to colleagues on compliance approaches.
Excellent consensus building, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
Strong writing skills with a focus on creating clear, concise, and comprehensive correspondence and documents.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey legal concepts and requirements to non-technical stakeholders.
Experience in managing compliance programs and ensuring ongoing compliance across an organization.
Must have a keen ability to collaborate effectively with all businesses and functions.
Demonstrated ability to perform and document detailed legal research into concise summaries.
Self-motivated and efficient, with good business judgment and analytical skills.
Ability to efficiently manage a large workload and react promptly to multiple deadlines
Detail oriented and organized.
Ability to work independently.
Must maintain a professional demeanor.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, and collaboration skills with a drive to find solutions.
Must be able to interact effectively at all levels and divisions of the organization.
Should possess between 4 plus years of experience at a law firm, in-house corporate legal department, or equivalent
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required
Preferred
Working knowledge of privacy laws and best practices, with focus on student data, and an understanding of how to apply them.
Experience with privacy by design concepts and working with business partners to integrate compliance into projects.
CIPP/US certification
The ability to travel 2-3 times a year to College Board offices or on behalf of College Board business

About Our Process

A Thoughtful Approach to Compensation
The hiring range for this role is $80,000 - $140,000.
