Salary: $95,000-$110,000

About the Center for Black Educator Development (CBED)

The Center for Black Educator Development exists to (re)build a national Black Teacher Pipeline to achieve educational and racial justice. Launched in 2019, CBED is revolutionizing education by dramatically increasing the number of Black educators so that low-income Black and other disenfranchised students can reap the full benefits of a quality public education. About the Position

We are seeking a Director of Strategic Partnerships to grow our strategic partnerships portfolio in the education ecosystem. Reporting to the Managing Director of External Affairs, the Director of Strategic Partnerships will specifically be responsible for leading and coordinating various initiatives such as the National Black Teacher Pipeline Coalition, the #WeNeedBlackTeachers advocacy campaign, the Youth Advisory Council, etc. The ideal candidate has a strong network of institutional and cross-sector partners, a proven ability to design partnerships, highly effective in project management that drives results for the communities we serve and is passionate about our mission of rebuilding a Black teacher pipeline. Please note that this position is currently funded through a 3-year grant and we are actively exploring opportunities to extend the role beyond this period.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with members of the External Affairs team to ensure cohesive execution of CBED’s external strategy, under the leadership of the Managing Director of External Affairs.

  • Build and manage the National Black Teacher Pipeline coalition by identifying key stakeholders, fostering relationships, and facilitating collaborative efforts.

  • Organize and lead coalition meetings, ensuring diverse perspectives are heard and provide timely, written follow up to stakeholders.

  • Actively seek opportunities to expand CBED’s coalition network, establishing it as a hub for cross-sector collaboration.

  • Identify, cultivate, and secure partnerships with education stakeholders such as school districts/CMOs, state education agencies, universities, nonprofits, etc.

  • Assist with planning and coordination of various events and initiatives such as our annual Black Men in Education Convening, #WeNeedBlackTeachers campaign activities, etc.

  • Represent the organization at key conferences, roundtables, and collaborative working groups.

  • Define KPIs and track outcomes related to partnership activities.

  • Stay up to date on national trends, funding opportunities, and policy developments in education.

Background and experience expectations:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Affairs, Business, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of professional experience in partnerships, business development, strategy, or related roles.

  • Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholders, managing coalitions, and advocating for solutions that are mission-aligned..

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on conveying detailed information in an easily accessible manner.

  • Proven ability to navigate complex political, regulatory, and community landscapes.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically and adapt to changing circumstances.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

  • Must possess strong, high-quality leadership, administrative, organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Detail-oriented.

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment.

  • Self-motivated, creative, organized, and deeply committed to personal and organizational excellence.

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, Zoom, Asana and Slack.


Other work requirements:

  • Must have access to a dedicated workspace, phone, and internet access

  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support CBED’s mission and organizational priorities.

  • This position may require occasional travel for meetings, events, and conferences.
