About the Role
In order to achieve its ambition of serving 80,000-100,000 Fellows over the next decade, Braven is hiring a Business Analyst who will support the organization’s growth by providing cyclical and ad hoc data insights and thought partnership to Braven’s program teams. As a member of the Insights team within the Strategy team, you will bring deep technical expertise to produce accurate and insightful analysis of our program and Fellow outcomes; innovate to create new data products for the organization; and serve as the go-to thought partner and advisor on all things program-related data for your portfolio of regions.
This role is on the Insights & Strategic Planning team and reports directly to the Head of Insights & Strategy.
What You’ll Do
Lead Strategic Data Analysis and Regional Team Support - 50%
- Lead data analysis and data consultation for a portfolio of regional programs:
- Query, clean, and merge data from our organizational data lake (Google BigQuery) and other data sources
- Expertly using SQL, Tableau, Python, Excel, and/or other analysis tools to thoughtfully analyze and display data
- Prepare cyclical reports and present to a variety of audiences to provide ongoing insights into Fellow performance and program operational metrics
- Own and build relationships with your regional stakeholders at Braven
- Establish expertise and serve as a thought partner on all questions and situations related to program data for your portfolio of regions
- Create ad-hoc reports to address specific questions or concerns from internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, department heads, higher education partners, and employer partners
Advance Data Maturity and Visualization - 35%
- Support the development and execution of the organization's data maturity goals, including improvements to data management, governance, and use across teams
- Design, build, and maintain Tableau visualizations that provide actionable insights to teams across Braven. This includes activities such as gathering requirements, collaborating with data engineering, analyzing data, creating dashboards, and providing troubleshooting support
- Lead or support cross-functional projects to advance our data maturity, ensuring high-quality deliverables are completed on time
Build Organizational Systems and Capacity 15%
- Develop and deliver organizational training initiatives to enhance data literacy and empower colleagues to effectively utilize data insights
- Serve as a thought leader on developing a data-driven culture across the organization
Minimum Requirements
- BA/BS in a quantitative field or work experience that demonstrates expertise in quantitative analysis
- At least 5 years of working in a quantitative or analytical role or equivalent experience
- Expert proficiency in SQL
- Proficiency in at least one programming language (Python or R preferred)
- Meaningful experience writing and presenting compelling data-driven stories, arguments, and narratives for internal and external audiences
- Proficiency in designing and building interactive dashboards in business intelligence solutions (Tableau preferred)
- Proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets

Compensation and Benefits
Braven offers competitive base salaries based on the midpoint of the market among not-for-profit organizations of similar size, with opportunities for salary growth over time. We believe in compensating staff members fairly in relation to each other, their qualifications, and their impact on behalf of the organization, and take internal and external equity seriously. Given our commitment to equity, Braven does not negotiate salary offers; instead, each salary offer is determined carefully using external and internal benchmarking.
Starting salary within the range is determined by role scope and qualifications, with new hires starting at the lower end to allow for growth with performance. Braven does not base compensation on individual candidate salary expectations and is committed to maintaining internal equity. The salary ranges, by geographic market, for this role are set forth as $83,600-104,400 in Chicago and $92,000-$114,900 in New York, NY, and Newark, NJ. This is based on a 50-hour work week. This is a full-time, regular, exempt, and benefits-eligible position where you will be working at 100% capacity.

Location
We gather in the office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday) and work remotely 2 days a week (Monday and Friday). Therefore, this role requires teammates to live within commuting distance of one of our hubs: Chicago, New York, or Newark. We believe in the magic, connection, and collaboration that happens when people work together face-to-face, and we believe in giving people flexibility to focus, balance personal priorities, and save themselves two commutes per week.
