What You Will Do:

Bottom Line seeks a Senior Manager, Communications to help execute the organization’s strategic plan which focuses on expanding to directly serve 20,000 students annually and reaching 400,000 with the Bottom Line program model through partnerships by the year 2030. The Senior Manager, Communications is responsible for the development of messaging and communications strategies that help raise awareness for Bottom Line amongst its external audiences.

Responsibilities:

Earned Media & Thought Leadership - 50%

  • Design and implement a proactive earned media strategy that increases national and regional visibility for Bottom Line’s mission, students, and impact.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with journalists and media outlets; consistently pitch stories that elevate Bottom Line’s work and student voices.
  • Position Bottom Line’s CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and alumni as sector thought leaders through op-eds, bylined articles, media interviews, and speaking opportunities.
  • Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other external communications to amplify Bottom Line’s presence.

Storytelling & Content Development - 20%

  • Lead the development of Bottom Line’s Annual Report, overseeing strategy, narrative framing, content, and production.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager to uncover and deliver storytelling opportunities that strengthen the marketing funnel and highlight Bottom Line’s brand and student success.

Messaging & Strategy - 10%

  • Refine and strengthen Bottom Line’s core messaging, applying a segmented approach for key audiences, including students, families, donors, partners, and alumni.
  • Partner with the Senior Director to create and maintain a crisis communications protocol that ensures clear, timely, and coordinated messaging.

Shared Services - 20%

  • Serve as a central communications resource across Bottom Line’s regions, equipping teams with tools, templates, and guidance to drive message consistency and brand alignment.
  • Provide hands-on communications support to regional teams, ensuring local strategies reinforce Bottom Line’s national narrative and visibility goals.

Work Schedule:

Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, with additional hours as needed; flexibility may be requested

Who Should Apply:

If you meet the qualifications below, you should apply.

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or related field and/or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 5-7 years of communications experience with demonstrated examples of securing earned media and driving storytelling
  • Superior writing/storytelling skills with a demonstrated ability to write compelling content for different audiences, platforms, tones/voices
  • Proven ability to identify interesting storytelling opportunities
  • Expertise in the latest communications, messaging, and storytelling strategies, tools, and trends
  • Results-driven with experience building and executing measurable communications strategies involving use of data and metrics
  • Crisis communications experience preferred
  • Creative and strategic thinker
  • Ability to foster deep collaboration working remotely yet across multiple geographic areas
  • An affinity towards being a self-starter with an independent motivation to meet deadlines and execute outstanding work
  • Demonstrated commitment to Bottom Line’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values
